Croatia Burt? Any decent dragonflies out there?
ReplyDeleteAlan, There is a drought where I was and very little/no standing water. Did not see any at all, unlike northern Italy (close by) last year which was fantastic for them. Didn't expect any birds at this time of year and apart from a couple of Melodious Warblers I didn't get any decent birds either. Got some butterflies including Oriental Meadow Brown and Great-banded Grayling that were new for me and plenty of Silver-washed Fritillaries & Geranium Bronze in the town's flowerbeds but the vegetation was all brown and shrivelled and most of the butterflies were in the woods or at a nearby muddy puddle fed by an underground spring. Still weather was great and so had a nice relaxing holiday.
ReplyDeleteVery philosophical outlook, personally I would have been gutted, but then again nothing surprises me about how the weather can effect my wildlife watching. My reputation as a jimx was enhanced when I arrived with Steve in Shibdon hide on Sunday morning and Mike piped up something on the lines of "no wonder it's f***ing raining!"
